MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director Dave Glass confirmed this morning at Assistant Chief Chris Menapace will be the next fire chief.

Menapace had the high score on the Civil Service test for the position. Capt. Joe Jurkowitz also took the test and both passed, Glass said.

“Both are well-qualified gentlemen,” Glass added.

Glass said a swearing-in ceremony will be scheduled for late next week.

Menapace has been acting chief since former Chief Shawn Christy was suspended, and eventually resigned, in the wake of revelations that he had allegedly falsified records of taking required training to maintain his emergency medical certification.
