MOUNT VERNON — On Saturday, local law enforcement agencies, in conjunction with the Knox County Health Department, Community Mental Health Board of Licking and Knox Counties, Foster’s Pharmacy, Arms of an Angel Foundation, and other volunteers participated in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The event allowed area residents to turn in unused or expired prescription medications for safe disposal. Collection sites were located in Mount Vernon, Centerburg and Fredericktown. During the collection, over 73 pounds of medication were collected.

“Everything that we can collect and destroy means that much less that has the potential to be abused or fall into the wrong hands,” said Capt. David Shaffer of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
