MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon City School District will soon be in the process of finding a new district treasurer. This comes after the announcement of current treasurer Barb Donahue’s resignation, which is effective Dec. 30.

Donahue is in her fourth year as treasurer for Mount Vernon City Schools and will be leaving to take a job at Amherst Exempted Village Schools.

“It’s a nice opportunity for me. It’s a professional move,” said Donahue, who added she has recently been a candidate for a position at Westerville City Schools.

One project Donahue began after she came on board at the Mount Vernon school’s treasurer’s office was a process of property value appeals.

“We kind of watch that to protect our tax base and will appeal if we think it’s not accurate,” said Donahue, explaining the school district doesn’t want the county auditor to reduce property values.
