BLADENSBURG — No one was at home when a fire broke out in a mobile home at 7240 Woods Church Road in southern Butler Township Monday night. The home was occupied by the Audi Matthews family, which includes two children.

Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District Chief Larry Stimpert said at the alarm came in at 9:59 p.m. When the department arrived on the scene, one end of the home was fully involved.

“We were on it pretty fast,” Stimpert said. They were able to confine the fire, but he added the structure is pretty much destroyed. He estimated the loss at $40,000.

The fire is believed to have started in an electrical panel but the cause is still under investigation.

To be sure all the fire was put out, the department remained on the scene until 1:30 a.m. today. The department responded with two engines and a medic. Mutual aid came from Bladensburg with an engine and tanker. None of the firefighters were injured.

The Knox County Chapter of the American Red Cross responded with food and clothing for the family and also provided drinks for the firefighters. The family is staying with relatives. Red Cross volunteers were Joanne Snow, Darlene Theophilus and Marie Poe.
