MOUNT VERNON — A total of 974 American Electric Power customers in Gambier and the east end of Mount Vernon woke up to no electric power this morning.
An equipment failure occurred about 5 a.m. and was isolated to this area. AEP news media representative Carmen Prati-Miller reported a circuit had locked out, causing the interruption in service.
Crews were immediately sent to the scene to address the problem, and all service was reportedly restored shortly after 7 a.m.
According to Belinda Lanning, deputy director of the Knox County Board of Elections, the power outage did not affect any of the polling places. Electricity was restored prior to the opening of the polls at 6:30 a.m.
