MOUNT VERNON — Weather permitting, portions of the Kokosing Gap Trail will be experiencing periodic closure beginning Wednesday.
Sections of the trail between Howard and Mount Vernon will be closed for up to three days as construction crews replace wooden decking on four bridges and several observation decks.
Work is scheduled to begin on the Jelloway Creek bridge near Howard and progress west to the large trestle bridges over the Kokosing River between Gambier and Mount Vernon. Trail users can expect to find bridges closed to all trail users for up to three days.
According to Kokosing Gap Trail president, Randy Cronk, this is the first time in the trail’s 20-year history that portions of the trail have been closed for bridge repair. Additionally, Cronk reports that the project has been made possible because of a generous grant from The Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County.
