MOUNT VERNON — The trial of Michael T. Collins, 55, charged with murder in the death of Mary Ann Township (St. Louisville) Fire Department firefighter Lilly Dawn Pressley-Claggett in a shooting July 1 on Ohio 586, has been postponed.

The trial was to have started at 9 a.m. today before Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster, but a request by the defense for a continuance was granted. The Knox County Prosecutor’s Office said the new date for the trial has not yet been set.

Collins is also charged in the wounding of his son, Jesse Collins, 30, who was a passenger in the car driven by Pressley-Claggett.

Collins’ daughter, Melissa Collins Kramer, 28, of Utica, has already pleaded guilty to obstructing official business in the incident and is expected to testify against her father. She was a passenger in the car her father was driving during the running gunfight.

Collins faces a total of 16 counts in the indictment, including murder with a firearms specification, attempted murder, voluntary manslaughter with a firearms specification, involuntary manslaughter with a firearms specification, having weapons while under disability and tampering with evidence.
