MOUNT VERNON — Dr. Tracy Schermer has been appointed to the Knox County Board of Health by the District Advisory Council for the Knox County General Health District. The appointment was made last week during a special meeting of the DAC.
Schermer of Gambier has been a medical doctor in Knox County for more than 20 years. He has worked for Kenyon College, the office of Dr. William Elder in Fredericktown and most recently, the Center for Wound Healing at Knox Community Hospital.
Schermer replaces Dr. L. Keith Plocki who retired from the board of health in July after serving 20 years on the board. In accordance with Ohio law, the board of health must include a physician among its members.
The board of health is comprised of nine members: four appointed by the DAC, three appointed by Mount Vernon City Council and a representative of the Knox County Licensing Council. In addition to Schermer, current members of the board include; K. Lee Rhoades, Laura Haberman RN; Ronda Hathaway, RN; Scott Harmon, DVM; Burt Hanson, Eric Siekkinen, R. Ph.; Shirley Timpe, RN; and Jeff Harmer.
The next meeting of the board of health is Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Knox County Health Department. The meetings are open to the public.
