The Mount Vernon/Knox County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours for December was held at the Kokosing Construction Co.’s training center at Fredericktown Tuesday evening. Andy Fox, personnel dispatcher for the company, talks about the company projects. Bill Burgett, the Fredericktown man that started the company, briefly recalled some history of the now 60-year-old company. He called the village an incubator for work with the men he hired, mentioning Earl Sockman as a backbone in the early years. He said they started with picks and shovels but he knew construction equipment was more efficient and expanded to a backhoe mounted on the back of a tractor. Now, they have power shovels that cost $3 million and will load a 100-ton truck in three minutes. Fox added they now employee 1,500 people and did $700,000,000 business last year. The shopping cart derby to collect food and money for the Food for the Hungry Saturday will have these people pushing the carts. They will race to the Public Square where prizes will go to the first team to finish and for the most money and food.
