MOUNT VERNON — Two trials scheduled for this month stemming from felony charges have been postponed into 2012.

Shawn Christy’s trial, originally scheduled for Tuesday, will now take place on March 6.

Christy was indicted on Sept. 6, on 15 felony charges and 4 misdemeanor charges ranging from theft in office, tampering with government records, forgery and falsification.

He resigned as Mount Vernon Fire Department chief on Aug. 26. He entered a not guilty plea on Sept. 16.

The trial of Shane Roberts, 53, charged with multiple counts of discharging a firearm in a motor vehicle and discharging a firearm on a public highway in incidents between Sept. 16 and 30, has been postponed. Roberts was scheduled to go on trial Tuesday, but a continuance sought by defense attorney John S. Dilts was granted.

The trial is now scheduled for 9 a.m. March 13.

Just before midnight on Sept. 30, Roberts allegedly fired several rounds from a 9mm handgun as he drove by a Fredericktown area business. At the same time, Det. Sgt. Roger Brown and Lt. Gary Rohler, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, were conducting surveillance at the location because of reports that someone had been shooting at the building. Brown and Rohler stopped Roberts, who had a 9mm handgun and a .380 caliber handgun in his car.
