MOUNT VERNON — Rolls-Royce Energy Systems announced plans Wednesday for construction of a two-story office building at the corner of Sandusky and Chestnut streets.

The building will house about 300 employees, including many now housed in the Tech Center, which will eventually be demolished. The new main entrance to the campus will also move to the new building from its present location facing Sandusky Street.

The building project was just approved by the corporation last week, said Glenn Richardson, vice president of Packaging and Driven Equipment.

“It shows the commitment of the Rolls-Royce corporation to the future of the business, its confidence in the Mount Vernon site and commitment to the people here,” said Richardson.

“We’ve been having our ‘all hands’ meetings this week and telling all the employees about the project. It has been well-received, from the shop floor as well as the Tech Center.
