MOUNT VERNON — Budgeting for 2012 in the Knox County Probate/Juvenile Court was reviewed between judge James Ronk and the Knox County Commissioners on Thursday morning. Attending with Ronk was Chief Deputy Clerk Diane Randall. Ronk had previously submitted a budget schedule to the commissioners, and no changes were made to this in Thursday’s meeting.
“I’m happy to say that we are asking for a little bit less money than what was appropriated for us last year,” said Ronk. “We feel like we’ll be able to do that and still meet the needs of the young people on probation we have to serve.”
Appropriations in 2011 for juvenile court were $569,350, while $553,350 is being asked for in 2012. For probate court, the 2011 appropriations were $116,560 with $111,400 being sought for 2012.
Commissioner Teresa Bemiller explained that certain personnel leaving their jobs and not being replaced as being the main reason for the difference in appropriations.
