DANVILLE — For some people, the Christmas season began on the day after Thanksgiving with a binge of Black Friday holiday spending. But if you ask Director Sue Wadian of Danville Interchurch Social Services, no Christmas season is really under way until the annual Knox County Food for the Hungry drive comes around.

As in other Knox County communities, Danville’s 2011 Food for the Hungry campaign culminated with a variety of events on Saturday. And with a trio of community fund-raising efforts taking place, it made for the single most important day of the year for Danville Interchurch.

Highlighting the day was the 5th Annual Danville Christmas Bazaar, along with a silent auction of trees and wreaths hosted by First-Knox National Bank and numerous collection points for food and cash donations.

“Food for the Hungry is our main source of income and food supplies,” Wadian said. “We also help stock our shelves with other projects like our Christmas in July,” she added, “but this is by far the biggest day of the year.”
