CENTERBURG — Treasurer Ellen Scott told the News on Tuesday that the Centerburg school board meeting on Monday was mostly routine.
She reported the solar project is proceeding ahead and said Solar Planet expects the high school system to be up and running by the end of this calendar year.
Besides approving routine fiscal actions, the board accepted a $100 donation to the Family and Consumer Science department from the Knox County Pork Council. It also approved a contract with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio for services for a student as mandated by federal law, renewed membership in the Ohio School Boards Association and resolved to participate in the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund.
With regard to personnel, the board approved a stipend for Jeanette Nichols to serve as the elementary volunteer coordinator and granted family medical leaves of absence to Will Gentry and Ami Stevens, retroactively effective Nov. 29. It approved Will Ellis and Jennifer Purdy to work with students as part of the 21st Century grant program, to be paid from grant funds, and added one hour per day to Susan Spark’s driving time to pick up a student at Mount Gilead school each afternoon. This is required by federal law. The board accepted the resignation of grant coordinator Deb Sykes, effective Dec. 31, and subsequently hired Jill Spearman-Macklin as 21st Century grant co-coordinator effective Jan. 1 to June 31, to be paid from grant funds.
The board also adopted the 2012-13 school calendar.
The next regular meeting of the Centerburg Board of Education will be held in the administration building on Jan. 9, after the organization meeting and budget hearing, which start at 6 p.m. Leroy Bumpus will serve as president pro tempore until new officers are elected.
