HOWARD — Cleanup procedures are nearing an end with the Knox County Water/Wastewater Department concerning maintenance of a well at Apple Valley.
“We had a well go down which was encrusted with iron,” said superintendent Ray Withers. “Some iron broke loose and caused some red water. We then got it flushed out of the system.”
Withers told the News that there are four water wells in service at Apple Valley. This well was taken out of service and has not affected the water operations at Apple Valley.
“It’s a maintenance thing. You have to clean the wells on a periodic basis,” said Withers.
Jamison Well Drilling and Pump Service of Mansfield was contacted to perform the refurbishing and cleaning. A video was taken to identify what the problem was, and a second post-video was taken once the work was completed.
“It looks really good,” said Withers. “A new pump is going in next week,” he said, adding that the water will then be tested before putting the well back in service.
