DANVILLE — Danville Village Council members had preliminary discussions on several items Monday night.

Clerk/Treasurer Laurie Vess reported she has talked with a representative of the Regional Income Tax Agency. RITA is an Ohio company that helps communities collect local taxes.

Vess reported the village has averaged around 30 delinquencies, resulting in the loss of more than $7,500 a year. She said RITA has the capability of finding and collecting residential and business taxes, a major portion of the village’s revenue each year.

Council agreed it would be a good thing to look into and Vess said a representative of RITA would be able to come to a council meeting in the near future to discuss their services.

Council also discussed a proposal by Danville schools regarding a watering system for the football field at the village’s park. The school is looking into options to take better care of the field and needs the village’s OK to pursue any course of action since the field is owned by the village.

In other news:

•Vess has received one letter of application for the open council seat. Anyone interested in the open seat should send a letter of application to the clerk’s office by Jan. 3, 2012.

•Council went into executive session to discuss personnel. After returning to regular session, no action was taken on items discussed.

•Village Administrator Robert Shipley reported the Ohio Department of Transportation is checking into the need for a stop light at the intersection of Rambo and Market streets.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 8 p.m.
