MOUNT VERNON — A public hearing regarding appeals with the county storm water administrator took place Thursday afternoon at the county commissioners’ office. Attending the hearing was Knox County Regional Planning Director Darrell Severns who submitted a document explaining the appeals process to the commissioners.

The document states that an appeal to any regulatory action brought against a person/persons by the storm water administrator must be filed within 30 days of the date of receipt; the application must be made on a form provided by the Regional Planning Commission; and must be accompanied by any applicable fees.

All applications for appeal shall receive a hearing within 30 days of receipt, and an appeals board shall render a decision within 30 days of the appeals hearing.

“We’re just a little lacking in the appeals process,” said Severns. “But this is vital if we get into a situation where we need something done. We don’t want to be sitting out in the open and not be able do anything.”

A second public hearing will take place Thursday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at the commissioners’ office.
