MOUNT VERNON — Recycling of trash has been around for years and has come a long way, but in some respects it is still in its infancy.
Only selected types of material can currently be recycled efficiently, while others are suitable for composting. But no matter how diligent the consumer, some trash inevitably remains at the end of the process. Getting rid of that trash economically, and in an environmentally-friendly manner, is a challenge that is not going to go away any time soon.
Proponents of recycling believe that the environmental advantages are indisputable, and that recycling becomes more cost effective as technologies improve.
Mount Vernon and Knox County are within the DKMM Joint Solid Waste District, which serves Delaware, Knox, Marion and Morrow counties.
Local residents have quite a few options to consider when it comes to trash, recycling and composting, and there are a number of public resources designed to make recycling as convenient as possible.
