MOUNT VERNON — There were no surprises at the budget hearing for the Knox County Regional Planning Commission Thursday. The RPC submitted a budget proposal calling for the same $107,100 appropriation as in 2011.
No significant changes in operations are projected and RPC Vice Chairman Kerry King said, “Revenue is down 20 percent in recent years and we’re trying to be efficient.”
He said the biggest project in the coming year is the update of the comprehensive plan, which takes place every five or six years. He said costs of the update will come out of the contract services portion of the budget, but with staff and local governments preparing the update and no hiring of a consultant planned, the cost will be well below the $50,000 price tag of the last update.
County Commissioner Teresa Bemiller, as she has said at every budget hearing, said the county will not make final decisions on budgets until the final bills are in for this year.
