CENTERBURG — A modular home caught fire and was destroyed at noon Friday at 3440 Wall St. in Milford Township, six miles east of Centerburg. Central Ohio Joint Fire District Lt. Dave Miller, the incident commander, said when they arrived on the scene half of the home was fully involved in flames.
The fire spread to the rest of the home before the department could get it under control. Firefighters sprayed water on a two-car garage that was just behind the home. Miller said it had a small amount of heat damage. The occupant of the home, David Pryor, was not there at the time.
Miller called for mutual aid from several departments; Mount Vernon answered with an engine and four firefighters; Homer with an engine, tanker and eight firefighters; Hartford Township with an engine and five firefighters and Utica with an EMS squad.
The Porter-Kingston department went to the Centerburg Conservation Club pond on Sycamore Road and pumped water into tanker trucks. A portable water tank was set up on the road at the scene to supply water to fire engines.
Currently, the cause of the fire is unknown. Department fire investigator, Lt. Jason Whipple, will inspect the house today to try and determine the cause.
