MOUNT VERNON — The nation’s forefathers intended government to be of the people, by the people, for the people, rather than just lawyers and career politicians. With that in mind, Bradley Duane Schaaf is entering the race for the 68th Ohio House as a Democrat.
“It is time for the workers, the middle class, to have a real voice,” Schaaf said. “Career politicians and lawyers have repeated the same promises for far too long. Government should work for we the people.”
Although new to politics, Schaaf feels his real-life experience puts him in a position to do what’s best for the citizens of the district.
“I know what it is like to work and struggle to raise a family,” Schaaf said. “I have never been a politician but have worked steady jobs since the age of 15. It is now time for the workers to put the career politicians out of a job.”
Schaaf, 60, has worked for the same company for 34 years and was recently laid off for the first time.
“As a crew chief and proud member of the United Steel Workers, I chose a severance so that co-workers with less seniority who have younger children could stay,” he said. “As chairman of the grievance committee I have mediated many issues. I am able to fairly examine arguments and needs, solve problems and will address the state’s many issues.”
It is time to be proud of Ohio again. It is time to shed the rust belt image. It is time to focus on jobs. It is time to stop the waste we have seen for years.
“I believe in the Constitution of the United States and I believe in the Constitution of Ohio,” he said. “I believe our liberty and privacy should be protected. I will work as hard for the protection of these rights as I have worked for my family.”
Schaaf has been married to his wife, Sara, for 40 years. They have three children and five grandchildren.
