MOUNT VERNON — On Wednesday, Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster handed down sentences in two felony cases, according to Prosecutor John Thatcher.
Tonia A. Cook, 36, Mount Vernon, was convicted of a possession of heroin charge. Cook was sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision including a 90-day jail sentence and a six-month term of incarceration at a community based correctional facility.
Thatcher said on May 4, 2011, Cpl. Beth Marti, Mount Vernon Police Department, arrested Cook on an outstanding warrant. On the way to the Knox County Jail, Cook admitted to Marti that she had two syringes in her possession that were later tested and found to contain heroin.
On Oct. 29, 2010, David R. Atkinson, 33, Utica, was convicted of attempted domestic violence for attempting to assault his live-in girlfriend. Atkinson was sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision. In court, Atkinson admitted to violating the terms of his supervision by possessing drug abuse instruments on Nov. 7, 2011. Atkinson was sentenced to a 120-day jail sentence.
