MOUNT VERNON — Plans are underway by the organizers of Ohio Junior Miss, Inc. for the 26th annual Distinguished Young Women Radio Auction. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, with a live broadcast by 13 WMVO radio.
Todd Hawkins, radio auction chairman, said the event is made possible again this year through the generous donation of air time by 13WMVO, and the publishing of items donated by the Mount Vernon News.
In the past 24 years, the radio auction has raised over $242,000 for scholarships. A large group of volunteers are out soliciting for items to be sold at the auction from more than 250 businesses and individuals throughout the state.
All items received for the auction will be listed on special pages in the Mount Vernon News prior to Jan. 28. Auction items will also be listed on mountvernonnews.com.
A dollar value will be placed on each item that will be in numeric order.
According to Hawkins, the public will call 399-5633, the radio auction number that day and place bids on the items. He emphasized that everything is being donated for the auction, and that all monies will be used for college scholarships for the Distinguished Young Women program, formerly Ohio Junior Miss.
Examples of past donations have been merchandise, autographed memorabilia, jewelry, certificates for your company’s services, restaurant certificates, lodging and get-a-way trips or other items that listeners would enjoy.
Anyone interested in donating an item should call Hawkins at 740-399-5526 or email him at Todd.Hawkins@raymondjames.com.
“The volunteers and participants of Distinguished Young Women of Ohio Scholarship Program admire your commitment and thank you for your support,” Hawkins remarked.
