MOUNT VERNON — With the start of a new year, it was a quiet week at City Hall, but Mayor Richard Mavis said it also brought word that the end of the connector road project is at hand.
Mavis said the mast arms are up at Yauger Road, the wiring is being completed and the traffic signal should be active by mid-week.
The road connecting Yauger and Coshocton roads will be named Woodlake Trail, if city council approves. Mavis said Knox Community Hospital was asked to suggest names and submitted eight suggestions to council before the end of the year.
“We wanted the outgoing council to have a say in the road name since the project has been done on their watch,” Mavis said, “And they recommended Woodlake Trail to the new council.”
He said once the city engineer puts together all the plat information on the new road, legislation will be submitted to council naming the road. That will probably happen at the Jan. 24 meeting.
Mavis said the announcement this week that the annual Peletonia bicycle event will be coming to Knox County is “an exciting event for us. It will be a huge weekend for Knox county, coming the same time as the Dan Emmett (Music & Arts) Festival.”
