UTICA — The Village of Utica Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery at Hometown Market, 322 S. Main St.

The suspect entered Hometown Market shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday and walked around for approximately 10 minutes. The suspect then walked up to the cash register with several items of groceries and a 12 pack of beer. Upon the suspect stating he did not wish to purchase the beer, he displayed a plastic toy gun, then told the clerk he was robbing the store while ordering a male employee to the floor.

The clerk said she told the man the money had been put away for the night and then grabbed for the toy gun, leaving a small cut on her hand. The suspect then ran out the front door with no money and fled westbound from the store.

The clerk described the suspect as being “polite and professional,” and he did not pull his ski mask on until walking up to the cashier, which allowed clerks to notice what they called a “fake-looking” mustache.

Police are looking for a white male, 30 to 40 years old with a medium build, brown eyes and dark hair.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouragade to call the Utica Police Department at 892-2211.
