MOUNT VERNON — Megan Peterson, 19, Mount Vernon, has been on probation since her conviction in May on vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges. Now she’s back in court again, this time on felonious assault and domestic violence charges.
Peterson is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, in an incident Sunday in which she allegedly threatened her mother’s boyfriend, Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Springer reported. Peterson could face two to eight years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000 on the charge.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Sunday of a man being attacked by a woman with a knife. The man’s coat sleeve was punctured but he was otherwise unharmed. Peterson was arrested and charged with assault.
At a bond hearing in Mount Vernon Municipal Court Tuesday, she was given a $75,000 cash bond and ordered to have no contact with the other party. She will appear in Municipal Court at 3 p.m. Jan. 17 for a preliminary hearing on the charge. According to court documents, she remains in jail in lieu of bond.
She is also scheduled to appear in Municipal Court at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 17 on a hearing on a request by her attorney, Brandon Crunkilton, for a continuance on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence, filed against her Sept. 22 as the result of an incident Sept. 16.
In May, Peterson was sentenced to 180 days in jail (90 days suspended) on the vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges. The sentences were to be served concurrently. She was also placed on probation for five years, her driver’s license was suspended for five years and she was fined $500 and costs.
Those charges stemmed from a traffic accident Aug. 4, 2010, which resulted in the death of Keith M. Homstad Jr., 23, of Johnstown, a passenger in the car driven by Peterson, and seriously injured Ryan M. Thogmartin of Zanesville, the driver of the other car.
