MOUNT VERNON — On Monday, new school board member Cheryl Feasel and re-elected board members Margie Bennett and Jody Goetzman were sworn in during the 2012 organizational meeting of the Mount Vernon City Schools Board of Education.
Bennett was elected board president and Goetzman vice president. Paula Barone will be the legislative liaison, and Bennett the student achievement liaison to the Ohio School Boards Association. Dr. Brent Nimeth was appointed school physician for the district, and the following committee assignments were made: Personnel, Goetzman and Steve Thompson; educational advisory, instruction and technology, Bennett and Barone; building and grounds, long-range planning, Goetzman, Barone and Feasel; and financial advisory, Thompson and Bennett with Feasel as alternate.
During the regular meeting, Superintendent Steve Short told the News on Wednesday, Colleen Clarkson received the East Elementary Behind the Scenes award for her volunteer assistance with many different activities at the school. Also, Short said, East Elementary teachers Heidi Hanna and Marilyn Nagy gave a presentation regarding Camp Skeeter.
