MOUNT VERNON — A Knox County Sheriff’s deputy was injured early Thursday morning in an accident on Vernonview Drive (Ohio 768), Sheriff David Barber reported.
Barber said his office has not yet received the official report from the Ohio Highway Patrol, which investigated the accident. However, he was also called to the scene and what apparently happened was that Deputy Max Huffman, who was northbound on Vernonview Drive on his way home after ending his shift at midnight, swerved to avoid a deer.
The cruiser rolled and Huffman received cuts and bruises but was protected from more serious injuries by the roll bar that’s part of the cage in the cruiser, Barber said.
Huffman was transported to Knox Community Hospital by the College-Monroe Township Emergency Squad, where he was treated and released.
“I talked to Huffman yesterday,” Barber said Friday, “and he was still stiff and sore.”
