MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Police Department is investigating a hit-skip incident which occurred Jan. 17 on Sunset Street near Cassil Street.

A report obtained by the MVPD states that officer Michael Wheeler responded to the scene at 4:04 p.m. to discover that a 15-year-old female walking westbound on Sunset Street had been struck by a vehicle, also traveling westbound. As the driver went off the south side of the roadway and came to rest, he exited his vehicle to check on the welfare of the victim and then left the scene.

The victim was said to be in stable condition and was taken to Knox Community Hospital by the Mount Vernon Fire Department. No other information was available on her condition.

A description given by the victim and another witness suggests the vehicle in question was four-door, dark in color (possibly gray), driven by a male subject with brown hair, a beard and mustache.

Anybody with information on the incident or the driver of the car is encouraged to contact the MVPD at 393-9559.
