MOUNT VERNON — Changes are taking place at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Improvements in the areas of flooring, furniture and display shelving are underway and will be ongoing for the next two to three weeks.
“We’re trying to spruce things up a little bit,” said library director John Chidester.
The biggest change is in the way of flooring as just about the entire library is getting new carpeting, which is now 23 years old, according to Chidester. “It was time to replace it,” he said. A few small areas including the main circulation desk and the desk area on the children’s floor are getting a new flooring material laid. This will be a shock-absorbing material which makes it easy on one’s joints when standing after long periods. The children’s floor was closed last week as the new carpeting was installed, but is now open. Walls are also being painted to give the library a fresh, new look.
