DANVILLE — Danville’s Mock Trial teams have done very well in scrimmages so far this year.
At the University of Cincinnati Invitational Tournament on Jan. 7, Danville competed in four mock trials. They were up against students from Miami Trace, Summit Country Day, Elder and Kings high schools.
As a result, Danville came away with four awards and a very good placement: Molly Mickley, representing Danville Team Black, won the Outstanding Attorney award; Keeley Young, Danville Team Black, won the Outstanding Witness award; Mariah Cline, Danville Team Black, Outstanding Witness award; and Alyssa Iverson, Danville Team Green, Outstanding Witness award.
Overall, Danville Team Black placed sixth out of the 22 teams, with a score of 197 points. (The highest score of any of the teams was 210).
The Fourth Annual Danville Invitational Tournament was held at the Danville Elementary/Middle School on Jan. 14. Taking part were Ashland High School, with four teams, Granville High School with one team and Danville High School with three teams.
“Since we had an even number of teams present,” said advisor Jim Holmes, “we were able to have four trials going on at the same time in different classrooms. I believe we were very fortunate to have the services of several area scholars, including five of our own graduates who are either associated with the law, or currently in college, to serve as judges for our scrimmage trials.”
At the end of the day, Danville’s Team Green tied with Ashland’s Team Red for top honors with 89 points.
Outstanding Attorney awards were earned by Brendan Urban, Molly Mickley, Amber Pitsenberger and Katherine Mickley. Ethan Shultz won an Outstanding Witness Award as did Alyssa Iverson. Dustin Stiner finished with two Outstanding Witness Awards.
Members of Danville Team Black include: Kristian Young, Brendan Urban, Molly Mickley, Dan Alden, Allisyn Morris, Mariah Cline, Katie Addair and Keeley Young.
Members of Danville Team Green are: Katherine Mickley, Kyle Hawk, Hannah Moreland, Amber Pitsenberger, Ethan Shultz, Breana Pitsenberger, Cory Wise and Alyssa Iverson.
