The truck hit a light pole at the intersection of Edgewood Road and High Street. The light was broken off from the pole. Mount Vernon Police Department officers blocked the road to traffic and helped the driver out of the residential neighborhood. More than 230 residents in the area lost power while AEP Ohio isolated the pole during two periods. A Knox County Highway Department crew pulled the trailer out of the way to give a squad access to the scene. Crane operator Mike Moore, ODOT District 5, Jacksontown, had a firm hold on the truck with the clam bucket. The reason for the removal is the trunks can damage the bridge structure. Moore said there is still a root ball under the bridge he could not reach. A plan is being developed to remove the root ball. There are seven more bridges to clear, including the one on Ohio 514 over the Mohican River at Greer. No apparent damage was done to the pole, but the truck suffered damage to its tires. Mathis was cited for an oversize vehicle on local streets violation.
