DANVILLE — A pickup truck, sport utility vehicle, motorcycle and tools were destroyed in a fire at the Jim and Darlene Butts home at 13651 Tiger Valley Road, Sunday morning. Tiger Valley Road runs north and south in Union Township southeast of Danville.

Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District Assistant Chief George Durbin said Mrs. Butts called in the fire at 7:30 a.m., saying flames were showing in the garage behind their home. When the department arrived on the scene at 7:42 a.m. the 32-by-40-foot pole barn structure was fully involved.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the majority of the fire, but digging through the fire debris to extinguish all the fire took more than two hours. Durbin said the building and contents are a total loss. Durbin called for mutual aid from the College Township department for a water tanker.

That tanker, along with the 2,100-gallon water tanker from the EKCJFD, provided enough water to fight the fire. The department had four other fire vehicles on the scene along with 11 firefighters. The Butts home is a short distance from the garage and was not threatened.

Durbin said the cause and origin of the fire has not been determined. He has asked for aid from the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s office that is scheduled to investigate the scene today.
