MOUNT VERNON — The trial of Michael T. Collins, 55, charged with murder in the death of Mary Ann Township (St. Louisville) Fire Department firefighter Lilly Dawn Pressley-Claggett on July 1, has been postponed again.
A spokesperson for Knox County Common Pleas Court said a request for a continuance, filed by defense attorney Bruce Malek, had been granted, but no new trial date has been set.
Pressley-Claggett was killed while driving north on Ohio 586, apparently being pursued by Collins, who fired at her car. Also wounded in the shooting was Jesse Collins, 30, Michael’s son, who was a passenger in the car driven by Pressley-Claggett.
Michael Collins’ daughter, Melissa Collins Kramer, 28, of Utica, has already pleaded guilty to obstructing official business in the incident and is expected to testify against her father. She was a passenger in the car her father was driving during the running gunfight.
Michael Collins faces a total of 16 counts in the indictment, including murder with a firearms specification, attempted murder, voluntary manslaughter with a firearms specification, involuntary manslaughter with a firearms specification, having weapons while under disability and tampering with evidence.
