MOUNT VERNON — It may be snowing outside, but this week also brought the first pool meeting of the season, Mayor Richard Mavis reported.
Mavis said the pool committee met to start getting ready for the 2012 pool season. Few changes are in store: The same managers will be back and admission prices will remain the same. One change they want to make in the pool brochure is to give more emphasis to the rule that a person must be at least 48 inches tall to use the slide.
The panel also decided to go ahead with installing an automatic in-ground sprinkler system to water the grass when the pool is closed. The money for the project is in the budget, Mavis said, but city council will have to give its approval.
Since the card slide device that opens the main gate into the pool often doesn’t work correctly, the decision was made to replace it with a turnstile to count the number of people entering the pool. The project is expected to cost about $2,970, to which will be added $380 to clean and recoat the two exit gates.
The pool will open for the season June 4 and close Sept. 3.
