MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man was jailed Thursday afternoon following a theft at Pacemakers Dragway Park on Columbus Road.

According to Capt. David Shaffer of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, a combination of an observant citizen and a quick response by deputies resulted in the arrest of 31-year-old Andrew K. Poland of Mount Vernon.

Deputies responded to a citizen’s report of a suspicious male subject in the mobile home park at 8750 Columbus Road pushing a dolly toward the woods early Thursday afternoon. While checking the area, Deputies Tim Light and Wayne Noggle observed the subject removing two rolls of chain link fence from the drag strip. He was taken into custody as he was hauling the fence on the dolly coming away from the scene.

Poland was transported to jail on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, possession of criminal tools and criminal trespassing.

“This arrest is an example of how citizens reporting suspicious activity can assist law enforcement in apprehending criminals and solving crime,” Shaffer said.
