MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis expressed his disappointment in the AEP Ohio bills mailed to customers this month.

“The discount line is not on the bill,” Mavis said. “It was on the sample bill given to me.”

Mavis explained that customers are able to calculate standard, pre-discount, payment by multiplying the “price to compare” rate by the number of kilowatts used at metered usage. This figure is what the customer would pay without the discount. To determine the actual dollar amount of the discount, take the non-discounted price and subtract the “AEP retain energy charges.”

Mavis said his disapointment was extended when he learned the amount of his personal electric bill discount was around 7.5 percent and not the 9 percent he agreed to.

“I apologize,” Mavis said. “This is not the sample bill we were suppose to get. We will be working with [AEP Ohio] daily to get the 9 percent discount. I am very disappointed.”
