MOUNT VERNON -- Businesses and residents of Knox County drawn to Mount Vernon's proud heritage have something to celebrate -- the Downtown Mount Vernon Historic District was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places on Feb. 3, by the National Park Service and the United States Department of the Interior.
