MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon High School’s In the Know academic quiz bowl team continues to advance in the competition and has made it into the final four for the second year in a row.

Different team members compete in different matches, depending upon who qualifies that week. Toby Baumann, Walker Griggs, Jimmy Cline, Alex Metcalfe, Weston Uram and Conor Croswell defeated Johnstown 39 to 13 on Feb. 7.

During the academic challenge contest, the WOSU quiz bowl program host asks questions of eight students — four on each team — with judge Manuel M. Wilson officiating and tabulating the scores. The questions are based on general high school subjects ranging from science to visual arts. The Ohio State University awards scholarships to the top four high school teams, and Westfield Insurance awards grants to the top eight teams.

MVHS went up against Licking Valley High School on Feb. 14, and can be seen in action on WOSU-TV on Thursday, March 1 at 5:30 p.m.
