MOUNT VERNON — Ohio Distinguished Young Women of the Class of 2012 were feted by the Kiwanis at a luncheon held at The Dan Emmett Conference Center on Monday. The luncheon served as a break between rehearsals for this weekend’s final round of competition, and also gave community members the opportunity to get to know a little bit about the talented young women.

After Kiwanis president Bob Drews opened the festivities, Ohio DYW state chairwoman Cheri Butcher welcomed the guests and said the gathering is just one example of how the Mount Vernon community embraces the Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program. The occasion, she said, was also an opportunity to celebrate the young women’s hard work over the years to get to where they are today.
