DANVILLE — Danville Police responded to an injured man outside the Hangout restaurant late Wednesday evening, according to Police Chief Monte Vance.

Sgt. Daniel Weckesser responded to the call at the business at 704 S. Market St., and discovered Jason Hess, 26, of Danville was the injured man.

Hess had injuries requiring the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District to transport him to Knox Community Hospital. After Hess arrived at KCH emergency room, he was then transported by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center.

Weckesser discovered, allegedly, around 10 p.m. that Hess had been at Mike’s Beer Bucket at 506 S. Market St. While there, Hess and another patron got into some type of verbal altercation which became physical with Hess receiving injuries to his head after being struck by the suspect, Vance said. Hess left Mike’s Beer Bucket and was next observed about 10:15 p.m. at the Hangout restaurant where he used the restroom and afterwards began telling one of the Hangout employees that he had been assaulted at Mike’s Beer Bucket.

Afterward, Hess walked out the door of the Hangout where he collapsed and was found by an employee.

Weckesser contacted Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher and criminal charges are pending completion of the investigation. As of 8:30 a.m. today, Grant has Hess listed as being in Intensive Care in critical condition.
