MOUNT VERNON —Local candidates for office had the opportunity to make their voices be heard Monday evening when the Knox County Democratic Party hosted a town hall meeting at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Attending the meeting were John Booth as candidate for Knox County Commissioner, and John Ryerson and Brad Schaaf for 68th District State Representative.

Opening the meeting was Knox County Democratic Party secretary Mary Rugola-Dye who introduced each candidate. The candidates had five minutes to tell about himself and his platform before the floor was opened up for questions from the audience.

John Booth spoke of his public service which has included serving on Mount Vernon City Council for 22 years and as president for 14 years, chairman of the Knox Area Transit and chairman of the Salvation Army advisory board.

“Knox County is definitely the best in the state. The county has achieved many good things, but we can do even better, because we have quality people,” said Booth. “During the campaign, I will be meeting with as many of the people in the county as possible. As a county commissioner, I want to use my knowledge and experience. I know what the job is and I feel like I am the right person for the job.”
