MOUNT VERNON — Soroptimist International of Mount Vernon and Knox County was the latest group to host a luncheon with the participants in the Distinguished Young Women program on Thursday. Meeting at the Dan Emmett Conference and Convention Center, Soroptimist club president Sally Nelson welcomed the young women and guests, as most of the DYW participants were attending with their host mother for the week.
Nelson explained the local Soroptimist club has been in existence for 55 years, “To improve the lives of women and girls in the community.” They do this locally by giving to and supporting certain charitable organizations, particularly those which promote women.
