MOUNT VERNON — The electrical rate situation is again flirting with confusion, as Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis said American Electric Power is sending letters to commercial customers in Mount Vernon, telling them they are eligible for a 7 percent discount. Consumers who receive the letter should look at a box in the upper right hand portion of the letter which contains the address which is eligible for the discount.

Mavis said the city received a separate letter for each location where it has an electrical service contract.

Inventory measure

At 6:30 p.m. Monday, city council’s Finance Committee will hold a 30-minute meeting to discuss the draft legislation for an inventory system for the city. The draft specifics inventory requirements for equipment worth more than $500 and any data processing equipment.

The meeting will be followed at 7 p.m. by another Finance Committee meeting at which City Auditor Terry Scott will explain the financing plans for the proposed maintenance building.

Mavis said he expects legislation for the plan to be ready for council by March 12.
