MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon City Council member Janis Seavolt will be in attendance today at the Ohio Municipal League’s regional seminar for newly-elected council members. The seminar, conducted on the even-numbered years following the municipal election year, is taking place at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Dublin. Other seminars in Ohio are offered in Cincinnati and Independence.

“This was offered for all new members so you can become educated and serve the citizens better,” Seavolt told the News. She is the only local council member who chose to attend the seminar.

Topics planned for discussion at the seminar include home rule and local control; council powers and procedures; land use, planning and zoning; financing municipal operations; liability of municipalities and municipal officials; and open meetings-public records.
