MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Sears store at 989 Coshocton Ave. was recently honored for being the top Sears store in the district for the third straight month in areas of sales and customer service.

Ryan Burnside, who is co-owner with his wife, Amanda, since Nov. 27, recently made the announcement of the award. The Mount Vernon Sears is one of 12 retail stores in the district which encompasses all of Ohio and part of West Virginia.

“We’ve made a difference in how we’ve marketed. We’re all about customer service,” said Burnside. “We’re not trying to sell to our customers. We’re trying to get them what they need. We listen. And we care about what they need.”

The distinction for top store in the district had never been achieved prior to Burnside taking over ownership. Before purchasing the Mount Vernon Sears store, Ryan was working at a Sears in Logan and Amanda at Sears in Lancaster.

The local Sears store has also been named a Premier Dealer store, a designation given to those rated as one of the top retail stores in the country. They currently have five salespeople on staff.

“It’s nice to have store owners that care about customers the way they do,” said district manager Carlton Richards of the Burnsides. “No matter what, they try to see that the customer comes first.”
