CENTERBURG — Centerburg’s Village Council literally approved groundwork for its new Wastewater Reclamation Facility at its monthly meeting Monday night. As a fall start of construction at the facility begins to draw near, site preparation is front-and-center on the village’s agenda.
The council unanimously approved $20,001.50 for engineering work and sub-consultant services by Bird and Bull Inc. of Columbus. By a 4-3 vote, the council also voted to award a $6,750 contract for felling of trees on 10 acres of land to Complete Clearing Inc. of Marengo. Another $12,000 was approved to complete purchase of easements before the tree work begins.
A report from the Public Service Committee explained that additional soil boring needs to be conducted at the site and that a test pit will also be required.
Because funding from the primary loan for the facility is not yet available, the council agreed to legislation advancing $20,000 to the project from the village’s general fund. The usual three readings for the measure were waived with the caveat that the advance will be repaid from loan monies.
The timeline in place for the facility calls for a bid process in June and July, construction start-up in September and completion in November 2013.
