MOUNT VERNON — A number of Rolls-Royce employees were reportedly given layoff notices Friday. The company issued the following statement Monday about the reduction of 20 shop floor employees:

“Due to the cyclical nature of the global energy business,” a company spokesperson said, “we continuously review our labor requirements to ensure we balance our shop load and meet customer demand. In consultation with employees and employee representatives, regretfully we have taken steps to reduce head count at our Mount Vernon site by approximately 20 shop floor employees. This process is expected to be complete by March 9.

“However, in accordance with the provisions of our labor agreement, we expect that around half of the affected employees will be recalled to work within 90 days. The remainder of those affected will retain their recall rights and could be called back as business requirements dictate.

“We are grateful to our employees and their representatives for their continued support in remaining focused on meeting our customers’ needs.”
