MOUNT VERNON — After nearly 10 years of looking, The Station Break Senior Center will be moving into a new home come July.
At a press conference Monday afternoon, Mayor Richard Mavis, who also serves as chairman of The Station Break board of directors, announced that the Dan Emmett Conference Center will become the new home of The Station Break. The move is made possible by the generosity of Karen Buchwald Wright, building owner Mark Ramser, and money The Station Break saved from bingo revenue.
Wright will provide the money for the city to purchase the building and then rent it to The Station Break for $1 per year.
No city money will be used in the purchase, nor will any money from the senior levy, if it is approved today. No United Way money is involved. Mavis said he does not know yet what the purchase will cost, as the details are still being worked out, but Mount Vernon City Council will eventually have to vote to accept the gift from Wright and authorize the purchase.
