HOWARD — It’s official — East Knox Elementary School will remain open. The board of education on Monday passed a formal resolution to accept the recommendation to keep the school open. It had considered closing the school because of the district’s financial difficulties, but a facilities study determined that a consolidation plan would not result in a long-term solution.

Treasurer Jessi Busenburh on Tuesday told the News the board also voted 4-1 to accept an invitation to membership in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference for the 2014-15 school year. Bob Durbin voted against the resolution.

Regarding personnel, the board renewed the contract of school psychologist Danielle McKown and approved a supplemental contract for Randy Baugher as junior varsity baseball coach. Brent Kasler was approved as a nutrition analyst for the PEP grant and Jeremi Jarosz and Summer Swetlic were approved as lifestyle coaches through the PEP grant for the remainder of the school year.

In addition to approving routine fiscal actions, the board accepted the following donations: $150 from Knox Dairy Service Unit to the East Knox FFA; glass from Strang Glass valued at $75; and $400 to the athletic department from the East Knox Athletic Boosters. It also changed its natural gas supplier and revised its agreement with the Knox County Educational Service Center.
